7 Home Remedies to Get Rid of Ingrown Hair

Ingrown hair are formed when shaved hair curls up and grows inside the skin instead of rising out. Also called razor bumps, these are commonly found on legs, underarms, bikini area and sometimes around the beard growth too. 


Ingrown hair creates a small red bump that looks like a pimple. It can sometimes get infected, with a little swelling, redness and pain. While this is not a serious problem, it is an irritating one. An ingrown hair problem sometimes goes away as the hair comes out of the skin;sometimes it doesn’t. Whatever you do, don’t pick your skin for ingrown hair bumps removal. 

1. Sugar
Mix one cup of white sugar with half a cup of extra-virgin olive oil.
Gently massage the scrub onto the affected area in a circular motion for a few minutes.
Do this 1-2 times a week. 

2. Baking Soda
Make a solution of one tablespoon of baking soda and a cup of water.
Using clean cotton or a soft cloth, apply the solution on the ingrown hair.
Wash it off after five minutes.
Do this 2-3 times every day. 

3. Tea Tree Oil
Add 3-5 drops of tea tree oil in water or olive oil.
Apply the mixture on the affected area, after cleansing the skin.
Wash it off after 10 minutes with lukewarm water.
Follow this treatment twice a day for as long as needed. 

4. Aspirin
Make a paste of two aspirins and warm water.
Add a teaspoon of honey and apply this paste to the affected area.
Wash it off after 10 minutes and dry the area.
Repeat this 1-2 times a week. 

5. Salt
Make a solution of 1½ teaspoons of table salt and one cup of lukewarm water.
Dip a clean cotton ball in this solution and dab the affected skin with it.
Wash it off in 5-8 minutes.
Do this twice daily. 

6. Black Tea Bags
Dip a black tea bag in warm water for a few seconds until moist.
Gently rub it over the ingrown area for 2-3 minutes.
Repeat as many times as needed. 

7. Aloe Vera
Rub the gel of an aloe vera leaf on the ingrown hair area for a couple of minutes.
After it has dried completely, rinse it out with lukewarm water.
Repeat this 2-3 times every day.
